On day two we headed to Universal Studios. There are two parks, and we decided to start with the Islands of Adventure because we had been dying to see Hogwarts and drink some butter beer in Harry Potter world 🙂
I have to say, after spending a day at Disney, walking into Universal Studios Islands of Adventure felt like a trip to the dark side.. The guy at the front gate let us know “this is not Disney, we are nothing like Disney World” when my Mom mentioned the check in process not being the same as Disney. Boy was he right. It was still a neat theme park, but compared to the atmosphere of Disney parks, it was severely lacking in my opinion. Everything from the people who work there, the people attending the parks etc was the complete opposite of the whimsical Disney that I love. I should mention the other Universal Park (Hollywood) that we went to a few days later was amazing and I LOVED it, so Universal redeemed itself for sure.
The first ride we came to was The Hulk, a coaster that I knew better than to start my day with..
So the kids, my Mom and I rode the little ride next to Hulk while my Husband and Dad rode The Hulk.
The music was so loud in this area of the park that I started to feel a bit on edge. We could not hear each other, I felt like I couldn’t think, and I had someone who appeared to be part of a gang of sorts say something inappropriate to me. I was so ready to bolt and go back to my beloved Magic Kingdom… But we kept on trucking and rode the Spiderman ride next, which I thought was very neat. Did it make me nauseous? Yes. But it was such a neat ride. After that we kept moving through a few water rides, Jurassic Park (neat, but super short ride..), a flying dinosaur ride (pterodactyl something or other) that the kids LOVED, and then we finally reached Hogwarts and Hogsmeade!
The scale of Hogwarts is breathtaking. Even if you have never seen the movies (like my Dad, which, holy crap seriously Dad? Marathon over Thanksgiving for sure!) My Dad was enamored with the detail, the butterbeer, Olivanders and so on. We loved this area of the park, and had a great time here.
The Harry Potter ride inside of Hogwarts was incredible. It definitely felt like riding on a broom stick (not so great for my stomach, but incredible nonetheless).
From this point on we kind of rushed through so we could make it to the Doctor Seuss area of the park before it closed. Evie rode the Cat in the Hat ride no less than 7 times.
The irony of her love for Thing 1 and Thing 2 was not lost on my Husband and I, if you know Evie, you know she is absolutely a “thing” 😛 We call her MISCH-EVIE-OUS for a reason 😉 There were no lines by the time we got there, and she happy squealed all through this one. She also loved the Seuss Carousel and Chloe really loved the Seuss train up above Seuss’ Landing. This was a semi chilly day with quite a bit of walking, so we were ready to get back to the hotel and order some chicken wings from room service.

Next up, Epcot all day! This park has not always been a favorite of mine in the past but I really dove in this year and had a BLAST. I can’t wait to share the details with you!
