A couple of years back I created a birthday countdown for Chloe using a shot glass shelf I found on clearance at Michaels. The shelf was a whopping $4.99 (woo hoo!). Here’s what the birthday countdown looked like: Pardon the hideous brown backdrop, not sure what I was thinking?..
This countdown makes me nostalgic, because it was when Kim (TomKat) and I became friends 🙂 You know how you read someone’s blog and think they’re amazing, then you chat with them and find out they are even more amazing than you first thought? That’s Kim. A genuinely nice person who is extremely talented 🙂
At the time I posted it, I suggested this as an advent calendar project as well. Fast forward nearly 2 years later and I’ve finally taken my own advice. That’s usually about how long it takes me.
I purchased some paper mache boxes from Hobby Lobby, and they were 40% off. Bonus. Then I purchased some Christmas style ribbon at Hobby Lobby, 50% off. I hot glued it all together and cut some numbers out with my Silhouette, and voila! (what show was it where they said “Viola!” instead of voila? – hilarious)
Because this was a shot glass case and there were a few too many slots to fill, I typed and printed off “Countdown to Christmas” and used my favorite glue dots (Zots!) to adhere it to the calendar and cover up the extra squares. Chloe said it needed a big bow (that’s my girl!) so we put one on there as well 🙂
Inside the Advent boxes:
• Candy Canes
• Reeces Chocolate Bells
• Little Notes on green polka dot paper – these say either “you get a surprise” or “lets go out for lunch today” or “lets go get a cherry limeade” Chloe’s favorite drink..
• Little toys from the $1 bin at Target
• Chocolate coins because Chloe loves them for some reason 🙂
• On Christmas Eve the note says “Lets read the Christmas Story”
