A couple of years ago I tried this out in store at Sephora. I loved it, but did not want to spend the money, and wasn’t sure about how heavy it felt. (Sephora no longer carries TEMPTU) I recently purchased the system from TryTemptu.com and received quite a bit more for the price of just the Airbrush system and foundation on their regular website, Temptu.com.
My total was $259.58 (I paid all at once instead of separate payments so as to receive a discount) and for that amount I received all of this…
The Airbrush System – Machine and Wand
Foundation AirPod
Blush AirPod
Highlighter AirPod
Bronzer AirPod
Face Tan AirPod
Concealer Stick – forgot to use this for the review, but I like it.
Makeup Bag
Instructional DVD – Same videos you can view on their website
TryTemptu.com also signs you up for the refill program, which I do not want, so I’m going to call and cancel that.
Alrighty, so, the first time I tried the system I got wayyy too close to my face and it looked awful. I watched the videos and read the manual but still got too close. It says to make a fist and get about 4-6 inches from your face. I did that, but it was still too close for me. I found I have to hold it about 8 inches from my face to achieve a natural, not completely dewy, look. First, I washed my face with Philosophy Purity and my Clarisonic and then applied Hope in a Jar moisturizer.
The “AirPod Dock” only holds 3 AirPods, and they sent me 5, but I only use the foundation really anyhow. I didn’t like the shade of blush they sent me and the bronzer was difficult to use because I only use bronzer in the crease of my face under my blush and around the perimeter of my face. I no longer tan so I have to be really careful to only use a tiny bit or it looks orange and obvious. I’m afraid to try the face tan because of my recent experiences with airbrush tan by professionals lol. If you follow MomAndWife on facebook you know what I’m talking about. The highlighter is easy to use and I do like it, but I’ve only used it a couple of times because I forget
Here is what the system and little holder looks like all set up.
One of the first things I realized after applying this the first time is that a primer is absolutely necessary for combination skin like mine. I used Makeup Forever’s HD foundation primer, because I already had some. I also used their HD powder on top of my foundation, because I already had it. On my face before applying foundation is Hope in a Jar and Primer.
Ok, now on to the foundation. I turned the machine on a little past the recommended arrow and pulled back all the way on the lever of the wand. Here is what I had my machine set at..
And this is what the wand looks like with the AirPod connected..
After I applied my foundation I attempted to take a photo of myself…and failed
So I enlisted the help of my Husband..
You can see where I applied my bronzer (MAC not TEMPTU) before I let the foundation dry completely, so it’s really concentrated and not blended. It’s important to let the foundation dry. Apply your foundation, then eye makeup, then blush/bronzer/powder.
The lighting in my bathroom is much less revealing than the natural light of our living room, so I’m glad I had him take the picture so you can see the true result. These pictures were taken immediately after applying my makeup so it hadn’t had time to completely settle. After about an hour the scars on my cheek are less apparent and everything seems to glow a bit. Here’s the reason Photographers LOVE the TEMPTU. As far as retouching photos goes I know the bare minimum (and I’m really bad at it) and just use an action that does all the work for me… but look how easy it is to smooth out my scars and enhance this photo, the TEMPTU does all the hard work…
Worth mentioning is that my shade did not match my face initially so I called their customer support line and they shipped me a new one out that arrived in 2 days, completely free of charge and I didn’t have to return the other one.
Here are my thoughts on the TEMPTU Airbrush Makeup System. I really like it, but it’s expensive. I’ve had mine a few weeks and have not worn makeup every day, still my AirPod is over halfway empty. Foundation AirPods are $45 each, compared to the $27 I pay for MAC every 2-3 months. So it’s significantly more expensive. It meets my 2 main requirements for foundation makeup, coverage and shade match. It really does cover better than any foundation I’ve used in the past and the shade matches my skin nearly perfectly. I’ve found with other foundations it’s usually one or the other. I live in Texas and it’s crazy hot here right now mixed with about 90% humidity. I walk outside and it’s like instant sweat – there really isn’t a pretty word for sweat is there? This usually means my makeup is going to look splotchy the rest of the day, but with the TEMPTU foundation (I assume because it’s silicone based?) it stays in place. I just blot any moisture that accumulates on my face and everything looks normal. (moisture sounds prettier) So I’m really torn, to be completely honest. The only downside I’ve found is the price. I don’t want to return it, but I don’t want to spend $45 for AirPods if they’re only going to last about a month. Because I’ve already bought it I think I’ll keep it and use it like I do my WEN shampoo, which is every other day. Have you tried the TEMPTU, what are your thoughts?

You could return it and try and dinair. The kits are cheaper and the most expensive foundation is 25 dollars. My friend is a make up artist and this is what she uses.

That looks neat too! Thanks!
I love my temptu. Whats the trick that you do with photoshop to get that look in your picture?
Hi Evi, I use this one from Totally Rad Actions: http://www.gettotallyrad.com/blog/original-actions/pro-retouch-photoshop-action/
Lindsey,
Thanks for sharing the photos and your personal review glad to hear they sent you out a new color so quickly. Maybe try these brands:
Luminess Air

or Dinair

Thank you for the referrals! I actually did find something else that I am in love with
curious what did you find that you love? i am from michigan and the summers here are sooooo humid am really trying to find something that will stay put ….
I purchased the Dinair first then Temptu. I love them both. I found that if you use the trio foundation technique your make up will last longer. What you do is get a shade lighter for highlighting first, then a shade darker for contouring then thirdly finish all over with your shade. Then you’ll get a natural and multidimensional look. Then I follow with a loose setting powder (Bobbi Brown mineral) is my preference then if you want to add a glow to your look follow your highlight with the shimmers and contouring with a bronzed shade and blam! Hot look fast and easy.
I use Dinair for eyeshadow so I can customize shades and get a great color kissed finished look.
I learned that technique from a make up artist and I love it because I get more than just a flat one shade of color.
So to wrap up use Temptu airpods for foundation, blush, highlighting and contouring and Dinair or traditional air guns for eyeshadow and other specific uses such as tats, etc.
thanks for the open topic, and have fun with it!
That sounds brilliant Brenda! Thank you for sharing!
Lindsey, would you mind sharing what system you found that you’re using (and liking) instead? I’m considering the Temptu system, but hesitating because of the ongoing cost of AirPods as well….
