I grew up thinking bacon had to be fried in a skillet, so when I learned this new method I thought.. there’s no way this is going to work. I had tried microwaved bacon before and wasn’t a fan of the chewiness. Bacon in the oven? Whatever, dude. I’m glad I did because it’s so incredibly simple, barely any cleanup necessary and the bacon cooks evenly while coming out perfectly crispy. Here’s the super labor intensive instructions (sense sarcasm..)
- Line a baking pan with heavy duty foil
- Place bacon strips on pan
- Place in cold oven
- Turn oven to 400 degrees
- Set timer for 20 minutes
Directions
voila!
Once the bacon is done you just remove it from the pan and place it on a paper towel like you would if you were frying it. Wait for the grease to cool, wad up the foil and throw it in the trash. The end. I hate to admit that sometimes I won’t cook certain meals because thinking about the mess it’ll make sends me into panic mode. This is one of those lifesaving (I admit I’m a bit dramatic at times) tips I learned that I just had to share
note: you’ll want to adjust your cooking time according to the cut of bacon you’re using, your particular taste and your oven. Just eyeball it the first couple of times to get an idea of how long it needs to cook to your liking.

Just be careful taking it out of the oven. A few months ago I was making bacon this way and I was taking it out of the oven while trying to keep a toddler from getting to close to the oven and I slightly tilted the pan and bacon grease ran right over my hand. I was pretty badly burnt, It’s mostly healed now but part of my hand is probably going to be a darker color for the rest of my life. So use two hands, and don’t try to do too many things at one time!
Ouch! That sounds super painful :/ Thank you for the warning!
why do you fry something that is full of fat? just put it on the skillet, don’t add anymore fat and it will cook and be very crispy!
LoL I should clarify, I didn’t mean deep fry
Just fried in it’s own fat in a skillet. Essentially it is still cooking in it’s own fat in the oven, however the mess is far less than if it’s popping away on the stove. I will say, my Husband tried battered and deep fried bacon ad the stock show this year and said it was disgusting lol
I HATE frying bacon!!! Thanks for the great tip!
Girl, me too
No prob!
I’d love to try this but I’m afraid…doesn’t the bacon grease splatter all over the inside of the oven and make a mess?
I think it does make a pretty big mess in the oven. I made bacon in the oven for a while, but then the mess it created in there was harder to clean up than on the stove. Also, there was a bacon smell left in the oven whenever I would bake something else, such as cookies etc.
The good thing about baking in the oven….to me….is you can make a lot more at one time. It also keeps the splattering down when you have little kids running around.
Cool…I’m w/u on the mess! Will try this out. I like the fact that u put it in the oven and take it out when ready! Don’t have to “tend” to it! Nice site design…cheers.
That’s funny because I was raised the same way! I do not like the mess that it makes when on the stove and I don’t like it in the microwave, so I always use the oven when cooking baking now :0) It’s tasty and no mess! My mom of course thinks it’s funny!

We usually only have bacon while camping because we cook it outside, I hate the mess of cooking it inside! We are having breakfast for dinner tonight and have my bacon in the oven as we speak! Thanks for the tip! :0)
I’m so glad you found this useful
I loved how it turned out! I made BLT&M [bacon, lettuce, tomatoe, and mayonnaise] for dinner tonight. Just being able to put it in the oven and forget about it was oh-so convenient. I used my counter top oven on the convection setting and the bacon turned out so wonderfully for the sandwiches. D.H. usually doesn’t like his bacon extra crispy, but he devoured the sandwich telling me between bites that he liked it. Not to mention he cleaned his plate. Thank you for posting this old, but revived version of how to oven-bake bacon, it saved me alot of clean up time. As for the splatter inside the oven, would maybe putting the bacon on a rack, on the tray maybe stop most of that? Since the bacon won’t be sitting in it’s own grease, I haven’t tried that yet. Intended to next time. Coming home after a grocery store run after dinner and we were greeted by the smell of bacon.
That sounds delicious! Love the idea of using a rack too!
