So, as it turns out…

I am not magical. I thought I could do everything and get it all done in a timely fashion, however, that is definitely not the case. Leading up to our move I had so many plans for our new home and business. As it turns out, pregnancy trumps all. Pregnancy combined with . . . moving overseas, a new puppy, an increasingly more defiant 3 year old, and a house that needs to be put together is not exactly the equation for doing anything in a timely fashion. That said . . .

  • If you have emailed me recently I am trying my hardest to answer them all asap and sincerely apologize for the delay. Seriously. It’s killing me. I usually pride myself on email reply turnaround time.
  • If you have seen the house cleaning fairy recently please let her know she forgot to stop by our new place.
  • If you have any tips on how to quickly and efficiently house train a puppy I welcome the advice with open arms (my hands are currently holding a bottle of Resolve & a towel).
  • If you are privy as to how you help a 3 (4 next month) year old, very independent little girl understand that a little baby sister and a new home can be fun please help a sister out.

Sincerely,
(drowning in a sea of emails, puppy poo and temper tantrums)
Lindsey

Usually with a new puppy I take it out every 45-60 minutes. Though it is time consuming it doesn’t take long for them to want to go out to use the bathroom. I also keep them in a crate at night. They don’t want to use the bathroom where they sleep and it also keeps them out of stuff. If you use a crate, I would suggest putting a blanket or something over it. Where they can still breathe of course. But it seems like to if things are out of their sight they will quiet down and go to sleep. I’ve always had success with both of these.

Ok, after thinking about it, I think it was every hour to hour and a half. They go a lot when they are babies.

Also, congrats on the new baby girl :)

Thank you, Christina! We have been crate training and he’s definitely showing progress. Sometimes I let him walk in from outside to his crate and even if he’s gone out there he decides to go again on the carpet lol He’s just a baby still, I’m sure he’ll catch on soon. Thank you for your advice!

yay another girl! I don’t have advice on any of the stuff you’re going through but I certainly got prayers.

as they say, this too shall pass. God allows us to bend but He won’t allow us to break. hang in there hun.

bunches of hugs and loads of prayers.

    Congrats on the girl!

When my little brother was on his way, my mother got me a Golden Book called The New Baby, and changed all the names to Jennifer and John. I loved it and really looked forward to his arrival. I actually still have the book and can see it from my desk. Maybe a trip to Barnes & Noble and something easily personalized would help? (I did the same thing for my twins … turning a book about two sisters who wouldn’t share into a story about my girls … they totally thought it was about them at age 3.) Good luck!

    Yay! A girl! :)

In regards to puppy – crate training works. But I would crate train even during the day while you are at home (hard I know!) in the beginning, unless you are playing specifcally with the puppy or it’s meal time. General rule of thumb: a puppy can hold it for one hour for every month in its age. So a 4 month old puppy can stay in the crate for 4 hours but any longer and you are pushing it. And stop at 8 hours no matter how old he is.

Another tip I’ve learned from experience: oxiclean is amazing for carpet!

You are correct, this crate training while we are at home is so hard :/ His sweet little face just looks at you like “why don’t you love me?” LoL He is only 2 months old but we’ve been taking him out every 45 minutes. I’ll have to check out oxiclean, thank you so much!

have you read/heard of the book “the loved dog” by tamar gellar (I think that’s her name) – if not, I highly, highly recommend it as a resource to use for training him. as for everything else, just remember that this too shall pass & try not to stress too much :/

I have no wise words about puppy training, or combining that with a 3-almost-4-year-old while moving. Just wantet to say hang in there, and get your rest! It will all come together eventually. And real moms understand when another mom’s house is a little dusty and cluttered. No worries! :)

I am getting a new puppy Saturday and from the beginning I am going to take her out every 30 – 45 minutes then figure out the night part. Also, remember, if they are going to the bathroom when you bring them right back inside it means you have not walked them long enough.
