Ever since I was a little girl my Mom has always made us bagels this way. I just assumed it was the only way. Until I got older and ordered bagels at various restaurants only to be disappointed by the lack of butter involved. I realize there are far less caloric preparation techniques, however, in my mind this is the only way to make a bagel 🙂
Turn your broiler on high.
Take your bagel, cut it in half.
Grab the butter.
Apply generous squares of butter. Place your bagel halves in a foil lined baking pan.
Broil until browned.
Grab the cream cheese.
Apply liberally.
Enjoy!
Ta Da! That took all of 5 minutes and beats the heck out of a toaster 🙂
Wow! I had no idea that people put butter on their babels *before* putting cream cheese on them. -now that is my kind of bagel. I will definitely be giving it a try!!!!
Hey that looks good! I’ll try it 🙂
That looks delicious. I just go straight for the cream cheese. I will try this next time!
We totally did this as kids in the ’90s when bagels became popular! Now I’m too lazy. But maybe not anymore. 😉
I make bagels like this, too! It is so yummy! We make it worse by making bagel sandwiches – we add ham, fried egg, and cheddar cheese on top and then throw it back under the broiler to melt the cheese!
Forgot to mention you can also make them in a skillet. Melt a little butter and brown them that way. The broiler is way less messy, but basically the same effect 🙂
Can we say YUMM!!! I want to try this…to bad I dont have any bagels handy at the moment!
