I’ve recently been dealt a case of adult acne, lovely isn’t it? I went to my regular doctor, saw a dermatologist, had a few facials, microdermabrasion and nothing was working. I’ve posted in the past about how much I loved retin-a, and I do, but it didn’t work for my acne in the long run. It just made my face really soft 🙂 Also, the side effects are kind of scary if you were to become pregnant.
I tried a really expensive antibiotic, a few prescription creams & gels and nothing has worked better than what I’m about to share with you. Prayer. Lots of prayer, and the products below. All of which you can pick up at your local drugstore for a fraction of the price you’d pay for prescriptions.
Cleanse – Neutrogena Fresh Foaming Cleanser
Love this cleanser, it lathers up really nicely and removes makeup well. It’s mild enough that it won’t irritate your skin, but still gets the job done.
Exfoliate – Burt’s Bees Citrus Facial Scrub
I love this scrub, it doesn’t dry your skin out. As opposed to a medicated exfoliator. I use this every 2-3 days.
Moisturize – Neutrogena Oil Free Moisture
There are a bazillion different moisturizer options out there, and I’m pretty sure I’ve tried them all 🙂 Through this trial and error process I’ve discovered this one to be my favorite. It doesn’t have spf in it so it doesn’t break me out, and it isn’t so moisturizing that my skin is oily all day.
Spot Treating Acne – Neutrogena On the Spot
When treating acne, you have to go as mild as possible so as not to irritate the surrounding skin. There’s a very fine balance you have to keep and this is the only product (expensive prescriptions included) that has really worked for me.
For Those Really Mean Ones – Clear Cell Medicated Acne Lotion
I also purchased this moderately priced treatment gel from FaceLogic that I use on stubborn pimples that just won’t go away. But make sure you’re only spot treating or you could bring up new ones in the process of trying to get rid of your existing pimples. This stuff is really strong and uses the maximum amount of benzoyl peroxide you can purchase without a prescription, combined with salicylic acid.
Eye Cream – Burt’s Bees Radiance Eye Cream with Royal Jelly
This stuff is simple and soothing, not a whole lot of unnecessary ingredients involved. I apply this under my eyes and on my eyelids each night before bed.
I realize this information may be of no use to the majority of you, but as someone who’s recently endured the aggravation of acne as an adult I thought it worth sharing 🙂 To sum up, I hate pimples. Have a wonderful day everyone!
