A great thing about breakfast casseroles is you can prepare the ingredients the night before, and just pop it in the oven the next morning.
1 Onion ( I used yellow)
1 (8 oz) tube of crescent rolls
1 (16 oz) package of breakfast sausage
2 Cups Shredded Medium Cheddar Cheese
1 Cup frozen hash browns
6 Eggs (beaten) – optional
1 stick of butter to sautee onions & grease baking dish. (you probably won’t use all of it. butter is good.)
1-Sautee your onions, set aside.
2-Brown your sausage, drain, set aside.
3-Brown your hash browns, set aside.
4-Preheat your oven to 350º
5-Grease your baking dish, then press crescent roll dough into the bottom of the pan to form a crust.
6-At this point I bake the crescent doll by itself for about 10 minutes or until barely golden brown. You don’t have to, everyone is different.
7-While that is baking, combine your onions, sausage, & hashbrowns in a large bowl so as to incorporate evenly.
8-Next you’ll put your onion, sausage, hashbrown mix into the baking dish on top of your crescent dough.
9-Pour your beaten eggs down evenly over the casserole.
10-Bake for approximately 30 minutes or until a toothpick inserted in the middle comes out clean. You’re basically just waiting for the eggs to cook.
11-Then top with shredded cheese and place back in the oven until cheese is melted.
I top mine with a basic white “country” gravy.
1 Tablespoon Flour
2 Tablespoons Butter
1 Cup ofMilk
This makes one cup of gravy, if you’d like to make more simply double, triple or whatever the recipe.
1-Melt your butter.
2-Whisk in flour.
3-Whisk in milk and stir until desired thickness.
4-Salt and pepper to taste.
I usually put a little bit of black pepper, and a little bit of white pepper. White pepper tastes great in gravy, and well, everything in my opinion 🙂
